This is too cool! How do I join? I guess I have been “visioning by myself”. Because I want to be a mother soon, I think a lot about motherhood and how the current vision of it, the nuclear family where mom has to work twice as hard to “prove” an equality, the isolation of it all. How you need to be financially tied to income earning man or face a lot of uncertainty. I think a lot about expanded households where it’s not just a single woman with underpaid babysitters, overtaxed female relatives, or a man partner who may be away a lot or a dis-engaged parent. The right wing always says it takes a man and a woman to make a marriage, and to raise children. Maybe it takes many more people to raise a child. I see many people sharing on a rotation the household chores( lessening the burden on one person) and at least one adult always at home for kids, it wouldn’t have to be the same person day in and out! I’m picturing singles living with straight and lesbian or gay couples. I think something like this could really help poor people if expenses were shared, tasks were shared, hours available to do paid work would be expanded especially for single moms.
